Within hours of writing a post about Robert Huth’s move to Stoke, it is thought that we have now agreed terms with Stoke City for Tuncay as well in a similar deal.
Like all Middlesbrough fans, I just hope we are not selling the Turkish international on the cheap because Stoke have been kind enough to shell out £6million for Robert Huth. Interestingly I have now been informed that Stoke are to pay us £5.5million for Huth with a very similar deal being offered for Tuncay also coming our way.
Boro Board Have Lost The Plot
Just weeks ago there was talk that we would not sell our best players until the right price was offered. So what was the point of putting a price-tag of just under £10million on Tuncay’s head when we are now just about to let him go for around £6million. Are we afraid of teams not coming in for the Turkish international in the final days of the transfer window? If so, is that why we have accepted a pitiful offer for a top European striker. If we had just said no to these offers and we didn’t get any buyers we could have used Tuncay to get us out of Championship at the first attempt. His wages would still cost the club a lot, but not getting into the Premier League will be far more costly for us.
It was always likely that Tuncay would leave Teesside this summer, but I did not expect him to be heading for the Britannia Stadium. Liverpool, Aston Villa, Spurs, Everton and Fulham were all rumoured to be interested in the 27-year-old over the summer so it seems odd that he will want to play for a team that surely can’t get into Europe this season.
Good luck to Tuncay if he does sign for Stoke City. He will be a big hit there and will probably be their player of the season and then a top team in Europe will buy him from Stoke next summer for £15million. Egg on our face.
What do we think – have we gone about our business in the wrong way or do you think this is acceptable?

Robert Huth Having Medical At Stoke August 27, 2009

So it begins – Robert Huth has given in to the bright lights of Premiership football. Who can blame him though with a World Cup tournament only 10 months away. Huth needs to be playing in the top flight to get his 6ft4″ frame on the plane to South Africa.
The deal has not yet been completed, but it is thought that if Huth does pass his medical and he agrees terms we will pocket £6million – the same fee we purchased the big defender for back in 2006.
Good luck to the lad, although I could have seen him put on an Everton or Villa shirt rather than a Stoke City one.
