David Wheater has ended any speculation surrounding his future at the club by stating his desire to stay at the club he loves for another three or four years before making any decisions on his next move.
“I think I’ll be here another three or four years before I even think about it. This is my local club and I’m happy here.” – David Wheater
Like most of us, the big lad from Redcar wants us to gain promotion to the Premier League at the first attempt after relegation.
“We want to get back into the Premier League at the first attempt. It will be fantastic if we do that and that’s one of the reasons I want to stay here.” – The Redcar Rock
David Wheater will be looking to add another clean sheet to his name this afternoon at the Riverside as the boys take on Doncaster Rovers. They have a great chance of adding a fourth clean sheet in-a-row today in front of the fans.
The 22-year-old will one day be hoping to play for England and with a year in the Championship with a promotion winning team he will have gained some very useful experience that will help him get into that team.
If he continues to impress this season with Robert Huth by his side I predict that both will be back in their respected international squads within a year. Fingers crossed that Huth will also stick around this season for us. More speculation about our big German has surfaced again this morning about a possible move to either Aston Villa or Everton.
Good luck today lads – another clean sheet will do nicely.

Big Dave Wheater is all set for his comeback game against Carlisle United this afternoon. The big lad from Redcar has completed his rehabilitation from knee surgery and is now ready to put the new Boro shirt on for the first time this summer.
All eyes will be on the big defender to see how he gets on against Carlisle Utd today. Southgate knows the next couple of games will be tough for our England defender. Gareth spoke about the big man on the official site.
“David Wheater should get his first start of the pre-season programme tomorrow. The next couple of weeks are important for David to get him up to match fitness.” – Gareth Southgate
Our defence will play a massive part in our Championship charge next season and if Southgate can keep Huth and Wheater together at the heart of our defence we will have the perfect platform to compete for the Championship title. Good luck to Wheats today.
Steele flying the England flag in the Ukraine
Jason Steele started in goal again for the England U19’s side which drew with tournament hosts Ukraine last night. Although Steele had to pick the ball out of the net a couple of times he still commanded the England back four very well and also pulled off a few smart saves. He is definitely one to watch for the future as he continues to grow as a competent goalkeeper. Joe Bennett made the bench for the game, but was unused.
If anyone is at the Carlisle game later, don’t forget to take some photos and email them to me when you get back and I will put them up on the supporter pages of the site or maybe in the match report. Enjoy the game.
