According to reports Sir Alex Ferguson will try and lure Adam Johnson to Old Trafford today which would serve up another blow for their rivals Manchester City who are also reportedly interested in our 22-year-old winger.
This latest development could be beneficial to the final fee for Johnson as it is reported that three top teams in the Premier League could now start a bidding war.
Johnson would be the natural replacement for Ryan Giggs on the left flank and could provide strength in depth as United look to conquer the Premier League and the Champions League. It is the Champions League that might be the persuading factor in Johnson’s eyes. With aspirations of making the World Cup in June, Johnson will be tempted to show what he can do on the biggest stage in club football.
We’ll keep a close eye on the latest Adam Johnson transfer saga.

A new era at Middlesbrough will begin at 3pm this afternoon. Gordon Strachan will take charge of his first game as Boro manager which has got Teesside buzzing since his appointment earlier this week.
A big crowd is expected at the Riverside this afternoon which will be a massive boost to the players in red as they have been used to low attendances in their previous seven games at home leading to anxiety and poor performances against teams like West Brom, Leicester City and Watford.
One of the talking points in Gibson’s decision to make a managerial change was to bring back the Boro fans to home games and with a fixture against Plymouth Argyle as the Scotsman’s first game in charge we should be in for some goals from the boys in red.
Stat Corner
The last time the Riverside held over 30,000 fans was at the end of last season when Manchester United came to town and beat us 2-0 in front of 33,767 fans. This season the Riverside’s highest attendance was on the opening day fixture against Sheffield United with 23,541 witnessing a 0-0 draw.
Boro’s lowest gate came recently against Derby County when only 17,459 turned up to watch the boys win 2-0. The average attendance at the Riverside this season is a lowly 20,434 leaving us well behind in 10th place in the average gate receipts table.
The Strachan era was the brainchild of Steve Gibson and Keith Lamb so we wait in anticipation to how this new start begins for us. A big crowd and good performance will certainly help to bring the fans back to the Riverside. Up the Boro!
