John Johnson is enjoying life down in League 2 with Northampton Town and whilst on loan there he is keen to learn his trade playing regular first-team football at the Sixfields Stadium.
The 21-year-old has had a mixed bag of opening games with the Cobblers so far with his first game being a 3-0 loss away at Shrewsbury. Playing at right-back it has taken Johnson a few games to get going and with a midweek win against high-flyers Rotherham United last week things are looking up for Northampton and JJ.
Johnson scored his first senior goal on Saturday against Bradford City in a 2-2 draw with the Boro boy grabbing the equaliser in the 90th minute with a header. This was followed up with a good win over League 2 leaders Bournemouth in the Football League Trophy on Tuesday night.
The right-back spoke about his progress on Northampton’s official website after the Bradford game last Saturday:
“I’m settling in well, there is a great set of lads here and I’m enjoying my football. All I want to do now is get a few more good permormaces under my belt and hopefully kick on with Northampton up the league.”
Johnson has not been without a familiar face at Northampton with former Middlesbrough coach Malcolm Crosby joining the back room staff at Sixfields. Good luck to JJ in his remaining time and hopefully on his return the Riverside he can squeeze himself into the Boro squad in the coming months.
